Ocuflox eye drops (Generic Ofloxacin) is an anti-infective ophthalmic solution that belongs to the class of drugs identified as fluoroquinolones. This eye drop is helpful in the treatment of various bacterial eye infections (particularly conjunctivitis or pink eye). It is a wonderful antibacterial solution that kills the infection-causing bacterial strains. Moreover, apart from eye drops, Generic Ofloxacin is also accessible for topical utilization as ear drops. Ofloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that affects the activity of both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Ocuflox eye drop is contraindicated in patients with a history of allergy to Generic Ofloxacin or to other quinolone antibiotics; if you are pregnant or breast-feeding a baby.

The following drugs are known to interact with Generic Ofloxacin and increase or decrease its activity:

  • Theophylline
  • Caffeine
  • Nicotine
  • Oral anticoagulants such as Warfarin

Store this medication at room temperature between 15-25oC in a cool and dry place away from heat, light and moisture.

When you miss adding this eye drop into your eye(s), you can use it when as soon as you recall. And if it is close to the time of the subsequent dosage, you can avoid the skipped dose and start again with your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the usage of this medication to make up for the missed one.

The normal dose of this eye drop is one to two drops instilled in the affected eye(s) every two to four hours for the first two days of infection and after that four times per day for a total of eight days. If the infection symptoms do not get better or get worse, discontinue using this drug and consult your healthcare provider. Before applying these eye drops, make a habit to wash your hands properly with a disinfectant.

The most commonly reported side effects of Generic Ofloxacin eye drops are stinging, redness, transient ocular burning or discomfort, itching, dryness, swelling of the cornea, conjunctivitis, eye pain, ocular or facial swelling, fear from light, blurring of vision, tearing of eyes, and dizziness.

Precautions:

  • If you are using contact lens while using these eye drops, be more careful at that time. Do not instill Ocuflox eye drop while wearing lenses.
