Careprost Eye Drop is an ophthalmic solution used to reduce intraocular pressure in the eyes. Bimatoprost is the active pharmaceutical ingredient present in the Careprost eye drop.

Uses of Careprost eye drop:

  • In glaucoma
  • In hypotrichosis

 Mechanism of action:

Bimatoprost is a synthetic analogue of prostamide, which is a type of prostaglandin. It acts by binding to the prostaglandin receptor. After binding, it acts like a natural prostaglandin and increases the drainage out from the eyes without causing damage to optic nerves. Hence, it is helpful to reduces the intraocular pressure in the eyes.

Contraindications:

Some contraindications are:

  • Hypersensitivity from any active or inactive ingredient of the Careprost.
  • Diseases like renal impairment, hepatic insufficiency or respiratory tract disorder.
  • Recent surgery for removing contact lens.
  • Avoid in pregnant or breastfeeding mother.

Drug interactions:

Some drugs interact with the active or inactive ingredient of the dosage form of Careprost, when administered along with the other therapy. These interactions can the efficacy and effectiveness of the dosage form. Such drugs are:

  • Latisse (topical Bimatoprost)
  • Anticoagulant drugs like Warfarin
  • Xalatan ( Latanoprost ophthalmic)
  • Vitamin preparations
  • Latanoprost ophthalmic
  • Herbal drug preparations

Storage conditions:

Some useful storage conditions are:

  • Store the unopened or unused dosage form of Careprost eye drop at 4 to 6° C.
  • Store the used dosage form of Careprost eye drop below the temperature of 25° C in hygienic condition.

Dose and mode of administration:

It is an ophthalmic preparation. The safer recommended dose of Careprost eye drop is one drop instilled in a day in an affected eye, only after the evening time.

Overdose:

Never instilled the dosage form more than the one drop at a time. Avoid to taking it more than the one time in a day.

Sign and symptoms of overdose are:

  • Fainting
  • Feeling of drowsiness

Missed dose:

If the patient missed any dose of it, then take quickly on the same day.

Side effects:

Some side effects of the dosage form of Careprost eye drop are :

  • Common side effects: Redness, inflammation and pain in the eyes, dryness of eyes, loss of vision and burning sensation.
  • Serious side effects: Pigmentation in the iris, conjunctivitis and conjunvtival edema.

Precautions:

Some precautions are:

  • It is beneficial to store the dosage form at a cool place, but do not freeze it.
  • Remove the contact lens while instilling the dosage form.
  • Don't instill the two or more drops at a single time.
  • Avoid consumption of alcohol or grapefruit juice, as it enhances the sensation of dizziness and sleepiness.
